AIMST newbie

Ahhh... it's finally the weekend! Orientation's over! and classes starting next week!

Since i haven't started any of my classes, i'm in no position to talk about it, have only received study schedule and things like that.
On my first week in AIMST.

This is my uni!!! ain't it pretty!!
An aerial view of AIMST. Got wan teng to forward me this. thanks!
Other pics, well, until i've more time/access to the computer or rather better and safer internet connection

This campus is new and everything, so we're kinda privileged to have all the facilities thr lor.
This week has been more on speeches/talks/briefings/summarization/sharing by dean/profs/asst. registrars/lecturers etc.

Some of the stuff i've come to know about so far:
-med sch staff: vvv experienced/excellent/cream of the crop/fun/strict/no nonsense ppl etc
(not necessarily in that order nor does all adjectives apply to any certain individuals only)

-the sports complex is cool!! not THAT humongous in size but adequate enough. There are courts for basketball, tennis, squash, pingpong, badminton, a gym, running track and an olympic sized swimming pool etc. there! if only there were more badminton courts... so many ppl rebut that limited number of places.............

-some of the students AND staff do make full use of the sports complex. The pool for instance is quite packed the day me n my frens went for the first time. The number of badminton courts available was not enough for the many ppl that may want to play, and so you could see some ppl playing OUTSIDE the courts/in the complex/at the 'hallway' area behind the security guard
another eg: Prof Ong works out everyday!! (frm wad we've seen ths few days lah) swim today, jog tmr............

-medical block only opens one of the 'twin towers' doors....

-there really ARE med students who attempt suicide and experience mental breakdown. so must jaga-jaga n dun let ourselves succumb to the NEGATIVE reactions towards stress factors
eh nobody die in aimst yet lah... this kinda thing happen in every med sch in the world okay...
Stats we were given were from a US study. Relationship deterioration, depression, suicide rate all increase if we're in the med field man.... *sweats*

-cannot go near the gng jerai area thr... (got 'something' there) if wanna lepak/date/wadeva, go to the more 'open' spaces in the middle compound of the campus better......

-the admin building is whr we hone our 'fighting', 'debating' and 'persuasive' skills...

-dress code: strictly formal! don't play play~

-Being late for lectures will result in being kicked out/attendance not taken/door to lecture theaters locked etc.

-the med curriculum is modeled after bristol's (uk uni) and then adapted to the malaysian needs

-AIMST Students can beat public uni students in clinicals wan u knw!

-Batch 14 (that's our batch) it the biggest intake to date. (i wonder if the future intakes are gonna be this big??)

-Lecture buildings/libraries are VVVVV cold!! but we have no aircon in our rooms!! (adapting to this harsh change of 'climates' is so gonna wreck a havoc and cause a breakout!)

-population of flies are increasing hyperbolically. (okay mb i'm exaggerating that)
BUT they are so irritating lah! Friday morning, 2 flies committed suicide in my cup of milo. Friday's lunch, another one can be found in my plate of unfinished meal.
(i found a bug in the midst of my greens the other day, but it wasn't a fly though)
My food seems to be some kind of attraction for flies and insects man... Whatever else is the reason they won't tarnish the edibility of other ppl's food??

-the veggies from the chinese food section, tastes funny. so i don't eat veggies thr. BUT i just ate a lot just now! cos out at kopitiam there!! authentic chinese food man!!

-our museum got pretty pretty preserved stuff that is fun to look at and to learn from... whoopie!

-cadaver
tq, those who have made this noble contribution so that we sakai med students can learn more n eventually get to save more ppl's lives when we're doctors!

-our seniors, first meeting is er..... undescribable due to lack of vocab for now

-aiyohhh so many things to write abt... i can't remember what i left out/have written already lah....... so stop here!! muahahahah!

On the other hand, I'm starting to get worried about whether i can cope with being a medico or not. Sure does seem terrifying. Summore i'm NOT a really good student that scores straight As and things like that.

Sien-ness...

Oh well.... Aimst is terrific so far.
Except for the flies, and small cubicles for showers, lack of safe/secure/reliable internet connection for my laptop and er weird tasting veggies??

Conclusion: It's live-able. Was much better than what i had expected in the first place anyway...

PS: Cameron highlands is waiting for me!! cool cool air for me this weekend!~~ V much a contrast with the non air conditioned hostel.......
